RICHMOND BEACH YOUTH HELP BUILD DREAMS WITH HABITAT FOR HUMANITY |

|
The First Lutheran youth group from Richmond Beach, Washington arrived with hands and hearts ready to make a difference with Habitat volunteers and the volunteer building committee. Upon arrival to the project the walls had been raised and sheathing and windows installed. With their endless energy and willingness to learn and participate the siding was installed, the floor, walls and ceiling insulation was completed and the sheetrock was started all in five days. The sound of hammers and laughter echoed around the site and through the neighborhood. When the schedule for inspections allowed time for a day off the youth all agreed they wanted to do more and agreed to attack a blackberry project at one of the sites rather than play. The end of five wonderful days filled with lots energy, laughter and good fellowship by all ended with the knowledge that their efforts greatly impacted the completion date for the home. We are grateful for the opportunity to work with this wonderful and energetic youth group and their leaders who leave our hearts filled with good memories and each has left a loving message on the walls of this new home for the new family. In addition to all the hours and the work completed the youth group presented a check for $1,650.00 to Habitat to help pay for materials on the home. May each student youth leader be blessed and prosper in all they do. We greatly appreciate the financial donation made by the students, thank you from all of us here at Habitat for Humanity and the Pickard family; we look forward to working with all of you again. Tristan Brown the youth leader of the First Lutheran Youth Group from Richmond Beach Washington worked with Kathleen Habitat’s Executive Director planning the youth event several month’s in advance. Tristan said “It was our pleasure to serve the community of Tillamook this year. For our youth and adults to be able to serve Christ in a very tangible way in the community is a fruitful experience for them as well as the community. It was by luck that we ended up in Tillamook, but we are glad we did! It was an experience different from any we have ever had. To work along side and make a difference in the lives of a family you know, is one of the most full filling types of service one can do. The volunteers we worked with were phenomenal members of the Tillamook community. To work with the kids as they did, and the life stories they brought made the worksite that much better! Our group genuinely wanted to serve the community they were brought into and I think it was apparent with the effort they put in. They gave 120% everyday on the worksite and even worked Sunday evening when they were supposed to go to the dunes. We are all thankful for the opportunity to come and serve our Lord through the people of Tillamook. It is easy to see pictures of Jesus in the faces of the people that touched our youth while they were there. We are all different now because of our time there and we hope that the community itself is better too! When we go on mission trips we are not only building houses, but youth as well. This was definitely a trip where the kids and adults grew dramatically. Habitat is a wonderfully worth-while organization that if you haven't already been involved with you should be soon! We were so blessed to be able to stay at St. Peter's Lutheran as well; they graciously opened their doors to us and were gracious as we took over their building for the week! To pastor Jerry and his congregation we owe our thanks! We hope to see you all again and extend our thanks to Tillamook Habitat, St. Peter's Lutheran Church, the crew from the work site, the YMCA and all the other community members who made us feel so welcome while we were there!” Habitat for Humanity would like to thank our volunteer building committee for their endless hours and caring hearts that led all our site volunteers and the youth who came to participate all week and through the weekend on the job site. Our thanks to everyone who make the cookies and snacks to keep the energy level at peak and St. Johns Church of Christ who furnished lunches and St Peter’s Lutheran Church who furnished shelter for the youth and Safeway who donated the bottled water. The construction continues on the project Monday through Saturday and Habitat needs volunteer’s everyday to help in completing this home, just call the office 842-7472 to check on the construction schedule and let us know when you are available. Volunteers are the heart of this ministry and WE ARE SO GRATEFUL for all of you who support us working together to make a difference giving children and families an opportunity to have a home of their own and a safe place to live. We are still raising funds to complete this home and to start the second home in September and invite you to help, just mail your donation to the Habitat office at 2610 Third Street, Tillamook, OR 97141.
