HABITAT FOR HUMANITY STARTS CONSTRUCTION ON THE 14th HOME

The groundbreaking gathering and the excavation on the Pozos Family home being built at 9905 8th Place in Bay City has happened. Even though the forecast for possible rain was in the air the spirit of happiness and joy could not be dampened, family and friends came to celebrate the groundbreaking and volunteers and the Habitat Building Committee watched as the excavation was completed.

Taylor Aufdermauer has selected Habitat for Humanity as a partner for his senior project; Taylor has worked with his father Don in perfecting the skills in the operation of the equipment used to excavate the site. Taylor will be working with Habitat on trenches, culverts, drainage and other site needs utilizing his skills. Bob Herrington volunteer site leader for Habitat said “It was amazing to watch someone so young operate the equipment with so much skill.”

The wall raising will happen on Thursday October 27th, the trusses and roof sheathing on Friday October 28th roofing, windows, exterior doors and lots of other work will happen on Saturday October 29th and siding is scheduled for Saturday November 5th. Guys and gals and youth are all welcome to participate. We need lots of volunteers to help meet the schedule making the home weather tight in three days, if you have a few hours to give and would like to participate in the fun just give Habitat a call at the office and let them know when you are available. We need workers in the morning and afternoons; split crews really help with the long days of planning and knowing how many people are coming really helps the site supervisor. If the office is closed just go out to the site and check in with the supervisor. They will be working from 8:30 AM-4:00PM all three days.

If you are unable to help on site and would like to sign up to help provide cookies, snacks, pop and water for those who are working on site, just ring the office and ask for Rita. This home is being built on faith; we are halfway on fundraising and invite you to participate in raising the balance of $35,000.00, thank you for helping.

We greatly appreciate and thank all of our volunteers who give endless hours, our donors for their generosity, Ford Foundation for our grants and businesses donating materials who make it possible to provide affordable housing to children and families who would never be able to have a home of their own without all of you. The mortgage payments made by the families are used over and over to build more homes; your donations are perpetual and keep right on working through time. Call the Habitat office 842-7472 for stop by 2610 Third Street, Tillamook if you have any questions on site schedules, donations or other information. If you have not signed up to join in the fun just give us a call
